YERCAUD also known as ''Ooty of the Poor'' is a popular Hill Station located in the Shevaroy Hill Range in the District of Salem, Tamil Nadu. This Hill Station is situated at 4,970 Feet above the Sea Level, hence the climate will be pleasant through out the year. This Destination has never experienced the average high temperature of more than 30* Celsius even during peak summer. Due to its spectacular climatic condition ''Ooty of the Poor'' attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists every year. What you can do in Yercaud? How to Reach Yercaud? 

Yercaud is around 38 Kilometers from Salem. There are Airport, Railway Station and Bus Depot in Salem. Government Buses, Private Buses and Taxis are available from Salem to reach your holiday destination at ease. Salem airport is located in Kamalapuram. Air India, Kingfisher Airlines and NEPC Airlines operates domestic flights to reach Salem from few parts of India. Other nearest airport is Trichy Airport which is around 168 Kilometers from the tourist destination Yercaud. The nearest Railway Station is Danishpet. But coming via Salem Railway Station would be the best choice to reach your holiday spot as plenty of transport facilities are available for your convenience.

''THE SHEVAROY HILLS'' is also known as ''THE SERVARAYAN HILLS'' is the outlying range of the Eastern Ghats. It is a 1620 Meters tall Mountain Range. It is one of the tourist attractive Hill Stations in the State of Tamil Nadu. This mountain range is filled with several Coffee Plantations and Sanatorium. There are several unique species of plants and fauna seen on some patches of Shevaroy Hills. Fauna, Reptiles, Birds, Snakes and Pythons like Garu, Sambar Deer, Spotted Deer, Indian Pangolin, Jackals, Hares, Foxes, Mongoose, Civets, Giant Squirrels, Hemiphyllodactylus Aurantiacus, Calotes, Calotes Rouxii, Mabuya Beddomii, Tail Snake, Uropeltis Ellioti, Uropeltis  Shorttii, Python Molurus, Macropisthodon Plumbicolor, Calliophis Beddomei, Trimeresurus Gramineus, Hylarana, Raorchestes, Fejervarya, Whistling Thrust, Racket Tailed Drongo, Peacock, Shama, Indian Grey Horn-bill and Oriental Leaf Bird can be seen in this hill. The Servarayan Hills occupies the distance of approximately 390 Square Kilometers. 

THE KILIYUR FALLS also known as 200 Steep Steps Pathway Falls, is one the Water Falls in the Hill Range of The Shevaroy Hills. This water falls, falls from the distance of 300 Feet which is the excess water from Yercaud Lake. The best time to visit this spot is at the end of monsoon period. During monsoons, the water levels will be at its maximum and it will very difficult to reach this site. From Yercaud Lake, this falls is situated at a distance of around 2.5 Kilometers. The final 500 Meters will be breathtaking as the pathway is very rough and steep. There are close to about 200 steps which are so steep on this path. 

ANNA PARK is located very near the Lake and is at a distance of 1 Kilometer from Town Bus Stand. This Park is one of the main attractions for visiting tourists. Anna Park is classified in to four small parks namely, Lake Park, Deer Park, Gandhi Park and Children's Park. There is a special park too inside this Anna Park which is known as Japanese Park. It is named so because the trees and plants grown here are similar to Japanese Style. There is a spectacular eye catching Rose Garden inside where so many varieties of roses are planted. There is also a Nursery where yellow, orange and red flowering plants are available that are grown in the Hill regions. Flower Show happens in Anna Park every year during Summer. 

From a distance of about 7 Kilometers from the Town Bus Stand, there is a Hill Temple called ''THE SHEVAROYAN TEMPLE''. This temple is also a Cave Temple. Shevaroy Temple is located at an altitude of 5,326 Feet. In fact, this is the Highest Point in the Hills of Yercaud. ''Lord Shevaroyan'' is the main deity, being worshiped by thousands of Tribal People. In the narrow and dark caves, there are Idols of Goddess Kaveri and Lord Shevaroyan. It is believed that Goddess Kaveri is guarding 67 villages that are situated around this Hill Station. This cave is around 2000 years old. It is also believed that this cave is extending up to River Cavery in Karnataka State. Years back, during one of the wars Tippu Sultan was hiding in this cave. There is a well in the temple premises and it is considered as a Wishing Well. Local tribes believe that if they can throw at least one out of three stones inside this well, their wishes would be fulfilled. Annual Festival happens in this temple every year and tribes around participate with full devotion. 

RAJA RAJESHWARI TEMPLE is on the way to The Shevaroyan Temple and is situated at a distance of 4 Kilometers from the Bus Stand, is one of the famous temples in this town. Main Deity of this temple is Goddess Raja Rajeshwari and in this temple she is in a form of ''Goddess Shakti''. Raja Rajeshwari Temple was constructed in the year 1983 by Sri Gnanananda Giri Swami Parampara who was an ardent follower of Swami Poornananda Giri. 4.5 Feet tall massive idol of Goddess Shakti is found in sitting posture inside the temple. Also seen are the idols of Hindu Gods namely Lord Rudra, Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Brahma and Goddess Saraswathi. Temple is open for devotees daily between 9 in the morning till 7 in the evening. 

THE EMERALD LAKE is also known as "BIG LAKE" or "YERCAUD LAKE" is located at a distance of around 1.5 Kilometers from main bus stand. Big Lake is one of the natural lakes in Tamil Nadu and it is the Only Natural Lake among the lakes of South Indian Hill Stations. This is one of the must see locations in this Hill Town. There is an eye catching Floating Fountain in this lake. Rowing and Self Peddling Boats are available for visitors to enjoy boating. Other attractions near this lake are The Deer Park and The Leisure Park which is situated on this Big Lake Banks. Deer's, Swans, Peacocks and Hamsters are found in Deer Park. 

Ancient Castle, ''THE GRANGE'' is situated at a distance of just 2 Kilometers from Bus Stand. This is also one of the must see locations in this tourist destination town. This castle is one of the oldest buildings of this town. The Grange was built by M D Cockburn in the year 1820 and he was well known as The Father of Yercaud. Resort is found across this Castle where Coffee and Oranges plantations along with Silver Oak Trees are planted. Located at a distance of 2 Kilometers from Bus Stand.

THE TIPPERARY VIEWPOINT is the Southernmost View Point and it is one of the top tourists destination. Breathtaking views of Sceneries, Greeneries, Steep Rocky Peaks and Woodlands of the Hills can be seen from this view point. One of the must see location to explore the aerial beauty of the Hill Station. 

ROSE GARDEN is a beautiful Garden located very close to Lady's Seat as well as Gent's Seat. There are open space in this garden for the Children to entertain themselves with excellent layout. This garden will be full of so many varieties of rose flowers during the month of March to June. Visitors get a chance to know about the cultivation of Mulberries, Growing of Silk Worms and Spinning Silk process. There is a Nursery inside this Rose Garden where you can purchase many varieties of plants. 

LADY'S SEAT is a cluster of rocks located at a distance of 2 Kilometers from Bus Stand. This Natural set of rocks form a seat on the Shevaroy Hills. There is a telescope to enjoy the beauty of Mettur Dam and Salem Town. Other attraction in this spot is a mini park. Never miss to visit this picnic spot to get the panoramic views of the Nature. 

PAGODA POINT is located at a distance of 4.5 Kilometers from the Bus Stand. This place is a Viewpoint which is situated on the Eastern Parts of the Hills. Pagoda Point is also known as ''PYRAMID POINT''. It got its name so because of the presence of four piles of stones that are arranged in the shape of a Pyramid. It is believed that this point is built by local tribes and it resembles the temple towers. It is the perfect gate way to see the beauty of Hills and its surroundings. Don't miss to see the Sunrise and Sunset from this viewpoint which would make your trip a most memorable one. 

Located at a distance of around 7 Kilometers from the Bus Stop, ''THE ANNAMALAIYAR TEMPLE VIEWPOINT'' is also a viewpoint in Yercaud. Main deity of this temple is Lord Shiva and this temple is located at an altitude of 1400 Meters. Panoramic View of Hills along with Coffee Plantation, Spice Gardens, Orange Groves and Servaroyan Temple can be seen from this viewpoint. Best time to visit this point is on a Full Moon Day. This open temple is open for visitors from 9.00 AM to 6.00 PM. 

THE NATIONAL ORCHIDARIUM AND BOTANICAL GARDEN is a 18.4 hectare of Green Space where more than 3000 trees and over 1800 shrubs are grown. One of the interesting plants found in The National Orchidarium is the Insectivorous Pitcher Plant. 

THE GRANGE is like a Building, that was built by Cockburn to promote Arabian Coffee, Apples and South African Fruits between the year 1820 and 1829. 

THE KURUMBAPATTI ZOOLOGICAL PARK spreads around 11.5 hectares at Shevaroyan Hill Base. This Zoological Park is the Home for Spotted Deer, White Peacock, Bonnet Macaque, Sambar Deer, Grey Pelican, Little Egret, Turtles, Grey Heron, Marsh Crocodile, Plum Headed Parakeet, Star Tortoise, Yellow Pigeon, Rose Ringed Parakeet, and Elephant. Children's Park is also located inside the Zoological Park. 

BEAR'S CAVE is located very near to Norton Bungalow. This cave is famous among the tourists. Lord Subramanya temple is located in Bear's Cave. The Idol of Lord Subramanya here is made out of Single Solid Rock. 

TREE TOP ADVENTURE or THE GRANGE ADVENTURE RESORT is located at an altitude of 1,500 meters. It is a Plantation Boutique Resort. Adventures includes Low Rope Course, High Rope Course and Zip Line. Grange Adventure is open on all days from 9.00 in the morning till 6.00 in the evening. Facilities includes Well Furnished Cottages, Doctors on Call, Trekking, Bird Watching, Bison Viewing and ATV Adventure. It is located at Cock Burn Road. 

KARADIYUR VIEW POINT is one of the Natural View Points located in Karadiyur Village. The Sunrise and Sunset views are the unique attraction of this place. Watch Tower is located in this place and tourists can stay inside the watch tower overnight and can try rock climbing. Best time to visit Yercaud is between November and March.
