YELAGIRI is one of the Hill Stations in the Indian State of Tamil Nadu. Its a small hill station located at an altitude of around 1110 meters. For Trekkers, Yelagiri is one of the best picnic spots. Tamil is the local language spoken widely among the locals. Through out the year the temperature here is so pleasant. Summer Festival happens here every year during the month of May and June. Events conducted by the Tamilnadu Tourism Development Board are Flowers Show, Boat House casting various cultural programs, Dog Show and plenty of Stalls from various departments. For shopping lovers Yelagiri is not the best place other than Home made honey or Natural honey. Plenty of taxis and autos are available for intra city commuting.

How to Reach?

Jolarpettai is the nearest Railway Station which is around 20 kilometres away. From Jolarpettai cabs are available to reach Yelagiri at ease. Bangalore is the nearest Airport to Yelagiri which is around 160 kilometres away. Cabs as well as Bus are available from the airport to reach the picnic location. Government Buses are available to reach this destinations from nearby towns / cities like Thirupattur, Bangalore, Chennai etc.

YELAGIRI ADVENTURE CAMP: In order to promote the adventure activities in Yelagiri, Tamil Nadu government has started Yelagiri adventure camp. Adventures includes Mountain Climbing, Trekking, Hiking and Paragliding. Government ensures the security and safety measures. This has gained huge recognition among the tourists. FUNDERA PARK is one of the picnic locations where one can have fun with family. More than 300 varieties of Non Indian Birds are found inside the fundera park. None of the birds are caged.

JALAGAMPARI WATERFALLS is one of the main tourist destinations in Yelagiri. Through the greenish hill station, the Attaru river flows and falls beautifully from mountain rocks. Excellent weather, Scenery, Rose Gardens adds beauty to this spot. 5 km stretch trek to the waterfall seems intensive and worth trying. It is believed that this water is having medicinal properties as there are several medicinal herbs found in the mountain where the water comes from. The best time to visit Jalgampari falls is between the month of November and December as the fall dries up during summer time.

Spread over 12 acres, the YELAGIRI NATURE PARK is a famous destination among tourists. Park is open between 7 am & 8 pm and nominal entry fee is applicable. You may have to spend around one to two hours to have a memorable and fun filled experience. Yelagiri Nature Park is one of the best parks for all ages. Attractions here are mainly Artificial Cascade, Waterfall, Children's Park, Multi Coloured Lighting Musical Fountain, Fish Aquarium, Seasonal Garden, Bamboo House, Poly House and much more. PUNGANUR LAKE is one of the artificial lakes in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Punganur lake is the man made lake that covers around 60 square meters of land. Beautiful fountain can be seen in the middle of the lake. Boating facilities are available for more thrilling experience.

SWAMIMALAI HILLS is one of the most popular hills in Yelagiri. The highest point of Yelagiri hill station is the Swami malai. To reach the hill top, we need to trek for a distance of 3 kilometres from the Punganoor lake. Entire valley can be seen from the hill top. This trekking has become so popular among the visitors here. VELAVAN TEMPLE: Lord Murugan is the main deity of this temple. Surrounding Hills adds beauty to this destination. Apart from Lord Murugan, other deities found inside velavan temple are Lord Ganesha and Gadothgajan, the son of Bheema. NILAVOOR LAKE is an another man made artificial lake in this hill station. Nilavoor lake is very quite and been surrounded by greenery. Boating is the best option to spend peaceful time.

MURUGAN TEMPLE was constructed on one of the highest peaks of the Yelagiri hills in the year 1964. Temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan. Lord Murugan and Valli is in the form of Kuravan and Kurathi in this temple. Separate shrine for Lord Ganesh can be seen inside. Temple Bells are seen on the top of the mountain. Huge statue of Ghatothgajan in the standing position adds treat to the devotees. AMIRTHI ZOOLOGICAL WATERFALLS is located inside Amirthi Zoological Park. It is open between 8 am and 5 pm. Through a trek of around 1.5 kilometres one can reach the waterfall. The water in this fall is so clear and the surrounding natural beauty is one of the ideal spot to photography lovers.

MOKSHA VIMOCHANAM TEMPLE is located near the Nilavoor Lake. Moksha Vimochanam Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and this temple is very famous among locals. Its believed that if a devotee prays for continuous 42 days in this temple, he gets freed himself from his past sins.
TELESCOPE OBSERVATORY also known as VAINU BAPPU OBSERVATORY is located in Kavalur which is very near to Yelagiri. Established in the year 1970, the Vainu Bappu Observatory is the home to the Largest Telescope in Asia. We have to get prior permission before visiting this location. Affluent Wildlife, Flora & Fauna adds beauty to this location. GOVERNMENT HERBAL FARM attracts lots of tourists and it is one of the top tourist attractions in Yelagiri. It is located very close to the Punganoor lake. Several Medicinal Herbs and Plants are seen around the farm.
