About the Tourist Destinations in Chennai:

FORT ST GEORGE, also referred as WHITE TOWN,  was built by British East India Company in the year 1644. Currently, this Fort houses the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Members. Attraction here includes The St Mary's Church, The Fort Museum, Wellesley House and Flag Staff. St Mary's Church was built between the years 1678 and 1680 and it is the Oldest Anglican Churches in India. Several Items and Monuments such as Weapons, Coins, Medals, Uniforms, Artefacts from England, Artefacts from Scotland & France, Original Letters written by Clive & Cornwallis, Quaint Period Uniforms, statue of Lord Cornwallis and few more pertaining to British Era can be seen inside the Fort Museum. Inside Wellesley House, paintings of the Governor of the Fort, High Officials and Tipu Sultan's Cannon can be seen. Made of Teak-wood, the 150 feet tall Flag Staff located here in this Fort is the Tallest Flag Staff in India. 

KAPALEESHWARAR TEMPLE also referred as KAPALISWARAR TEMPELE is located in Mylapore. It is believed that this temple was built during the 7th century CE. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Apart from the main deity, several shrines of gods and goddess can be seen inside the complex. One cannot miss the 37 meter tall Gopuram or Tower built with dravidan style of architecture. Daily six rituals takes place for lord Shiva at various times between 5.30 in the morning till 10 in the evening. The Vahanas (means Vehicles) found inside are Bull, Ashikaranandi, Elephant, Bandicoot, Peacock, Goat, Parrot and Golden Chariot. Main festivals celebrated here are the nine day long ''Panguni Peruvizha or Spring Festival and the Arupathimoovar Festival, named after 63 Nayanmars. 

SANTHOME CATHEDRAL BASILICA also known as ST THOMAS CATHEDRAL BASILICA, is a Roman Catholic Church. During the 16th century, this place was built by the Portuguese Explorers over the tomb of Saint Thomas. In the year 1893, Britishers reconstructed this as a Church. This cathedral is one of the Three known Churches in the World that was constructed over the tomb of an Apostle of Jesus. 

PARTHASARATHY TEMPLE is dedicated to Lord Krishna and it is one of the oldest temples in India. This temple was built during the 8th century by Pallavas. Located at a distance of around 5 kms from Central Railway Station, the Parthasarathy Temple is one of the Top Tourist Places in Chennai. Temple is open from 6.30 am to 12 noon and from 4 pm to 8 pm on all days.

THE GOVERNMENT MUSEUM is also referred as MADRAS MUSEUM, is located at Egmore. One get to know about Human History and Culture by visiting this government museum. This Second Oldest Museum in India was opened in the year 1851. Plenty of Archaeological and Numismatic collections can be seen here. Also, this museum possess the Largest collection of Roman Antiquities. Also found inside the museum is the National Art Gallery. The complex spread across over 16.20 acres of land. Collections are neatly displayed in 46 unique galleries. Objects displayed here are Artifacts Varieties, Archaeology, Numismatics, Zoology, Natural History, Sculptures, Palm Leaf Manuscripts and Paintings of Amravati.

VALLUVAR KOTTAM is one of the Popular Monuments in Chennai. Valluvar Kottam is dedicated to Thiruvalluvar, a Tamil Poet, Philosopher and Saint. The construction is similar to a Temple Chariot and to be precise, it is a replica of Thiruvarur Temple Chariot. The height of the chariot is 128 feet. Life Size statue of Thiruvalluvar is installed inside the chariot. There is an auditorium inside valluvar kottam which can accommodate over 4,000 people. 

VADAPALANI MURUGAN TEMPLE is one of the famous Temples in India and this temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan. Lord here is seen wearing footwear. This pilgrimage place is located at a distance of around 3 kms from Koyambedu bus stop. There is a Golden Chariot for Lord Murugan in this temple. Temple daily performs 5 routine poojas on all days. Palliyarai at 5.30 am, Kala Shanthi Pooja at 6.30 am, Uchi Kaala Pooja at 12 noon, Sayaraksha Pooja at 5 pm and Arthajama Pooja at 9 pm. 

MARINA BEACH is a Natural Urban Beach that runs a distance of around 13 kilometers. It is the Longest Natural Beach in India and also Marina Beach is the Longest Beach in the World. This beach is one of the most crowded beaches in India. Around 200,000 people visit marina during summer days. Legally, Bathing and Swimming are Prohibited here because the undercurrent is very turbulent. It is one of the most visited tourist places in Chennai. Marina is also so popular for its 500 plus shops including food stalls. There are so many Memorials and Statues located here. One of the best place for Walkers and Joggers to practice in the fresh environment. The common sports one can see any time here are Kite Flying and Beach Cricket. There are two swimming pools namely the Marina Swimming Pool and the Anna Swimming Pool for the swimmers to enjoy their visit.
