KOTAGIRI also known KOTHAGIRI is the Third Largest Hill Station in the Nilgiri Hills. It is located in the Nilgiris district in the Indian State of Tamil Nadu at an elevation of around 6,060 feet. Tamil is the local language, being one of the iconic tourist destinations the locals speak English as well. Kotagiri is famous for its tea plantation which covers an area of around 30,000 acres. Plenty of trekking as well as hiking opportunities are available for the adventure lovers.
Kotagiri is the home to the famous Kota Tribe, hence is commonly known as the "Mountains of the Kotas". During British rule in India, this hill station was packed with European style houses. One of the highlights of this picnic place is the 8 kilometres long trek to the Catherine Falls. Options are minimal to commute from one place to another within the hill station even though city tends to have a decent network of buses. Its better to hire a cab for site seeing to save time.

CATHERINE FALLS - the waters of the River Kallar, cut off by the Ooty - Mettupalayam Road, falls in double cascade from over a height of 250 metres forming Catherine Falls.It is the second highest waterfalls in the Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the best places for tourists, explorers, trekkers and nature lovers as it is cut off from the crowd. The best time to visit this place is after the rainy season, from September to around March-April.
RANGASAMY PEAK AND PILLAR, is a sacred hill that houses a Holy shrine dedicated to Lord Rangasamy. It is located at a distance of 20 kms from Kotagiri and is the holy place of Irulas Tribe. Rangasamy Pillar is 400 feet tall and attracts several tourists atop the hill.
KODANAND VIEW POINT is at a distance of 16 kms from Kotagiri and it offers a spectacular view of Rangasamy Peak & Pillar, Dolphin's Nose, Catherine Falls, Deccan Plateau and Bhavanisagar Reservoir, which makes the tourists awestruck.
JOHN SULLIVAN MEMORIAL, also known as Pethakal Bungalow, was built in memory of John Sullivan , a civil servant during British Regime, who recognized Ooty as a Hill Station. Today, this place serves as Nilgiris Museum and also as Nilgiris Documentation Centre.
