Light woolen clothing is preferred during summer and heavy woolen clothing during winter season. 

How to Reach Coonoor

There is no airport in Coonoor and the nearest one is COIMBATORE airport, which is around 100 kilometres away from your travel destination. From Coimbatore, you have the options to travel by Bus or Cab. Nearest Railway station is in Mettupalayam which is approximately 46 kilometres away from your holiday spot. Buses are available to Coonoor from Coimbatore as well as Mettupalayam. It is well connected by Road from Queen of Hills,Ooty, a must visit travel destination.

About the Tourist Destinations in Coonoor:


OOTY LAKE is one of the main attractions that lies at a distance of around 2 kilometres from the main city. Spread across an area of around 65 acres this lake is well surrounded by greenery all around. Plenty of Eucalyptus trees can be seen around. Ooty lake is one of the best spot for photography lovers. Background is filled with mountain ranges and the lake is filled with stunning water birds. Paddle boats, Rowing boats and Motor boats can be hired to have fun. Normally this tourist place is crowded during weekends, so it is advisable to visit during weekdays.  

KAMARAJ SAGAR LAKE is situated on the suburbs of Ooty. There is a dam and the lake is ice cold. Fishing is the main activity here and the place is famous for its scenic beauty that many movies are shot in and around.

WENLOCK DOWNS is on the outskirts of Ooty, spread over a vast area of around 8000 hectares, with lush green meadows over the natural landscape with rolling mountains. This place is a perfect weekend getaway and attracts nature lovers and photographers.


PYKARA LAKE is situated at a distance of 20 kms from Ooty, in the village Pykara. It is a popular tourist destination with large number of visitors all the year round. The best time to visit is during the month of July and August. Boating is very famous in this location.

PYKARA FALLS is situated in Pykara village which is almost 20 kms away from Ooty. The River Pykara flows downstream from the mountains amidst lush green forest and is named as Pykara falls. Places of attraction here includes Pykara dam, Boat house, Pykara Lake and a chocolate museum nearby. Boating and horse riding activities attracts tourists.

Spread across an area of 22 hectares, the OOTY BOTANICAL GARDENS is a Splendid Garden that lies on the lower slopes of the Doddabetta peak. Garden is divided in to several sections. The foundation was laid down in the year 1845 and was designed to have a terraced terrain. The slopes of the hill lie at an ascent of around 2500 metres above the sea level. So many rare species of tress can be seen in this garden. 


KETTI VALLEY, located between Ooty and Coonoor, is an Awesome View Point and also The Largest Valley in the district of Nilgiris. It is one of the must visit destination for nature lovers as well as photographers. This view point provides astonishing panoramic view of the entire Ketti Valley. Ketti Valley is popularly known as Switzerland of Nilgiris. It is referred so because the view we get to see around the Ketti Valley resembles the views of Switzerland. There is a Telescope Room for the visitors to see the full view of the Ketti valley and its surroundings. Pony Needles, a Popular Needle Brand is operating their industry here. Apart from the views of nature and mind blowing atmosphere, there are nothing more to see in this beautiful location. Visiting during the summer time will be the best time to visit. 


WELLINGTON LAKE is commonly known as Silent Lake and is located in Wellington Cantonment Area. Unlike other places, Wellington lake is less crowded. There are so many attractions inside this picnic spot. Musical Fountain takes places every evening provided if there are more than 20 visitors and of-course the weather should cooperate. There is an exclusive play area for children, where they can spend their time at their choice. Boating facility is available in the small lake located inside, hence the visitors can avail this facility and can enjoy the beauty of nature by roaming in the boat. There is a walking track to entertain walking lovers. WELLINGTON GOLF CLUB, also known as WELLINGTON GYMKHANA GOLF COURSE, is located on the Nilgiris Slopes. One of the best club for the golf lovers to have the fun filled holiday. Prior to availing the facilities that are available here, one may to become a member to get the access in full. There are cottages available inside for the visitors on rent. 

SIM'S PARK, an important sight seeing place is a Natural Park. Established in the year 1874, the Sim's Park is located around 5,840 feet above the sea level. The average minimum temperature around this picnic spot is around 5 degree celsius. Sim's Park spread across an area of around 12 hectares and it is the home for more than 1000 species of trees, herbs, shrubs and flowers. Visitors get the chance to enjoy the natural colorful beds, lawns and rockeries. Rare trees like Rudraksh a Bead Tree, Cinnamomum, Queensland Karry Pine, Ornamental Tree, Araucaria, Quercus, Phoenix, Magnolia, Pine, Turpentine, Tree Ferns and Camelia are found inside this green palace. More than 300 types of Rose Flowers are found in the well maintained Rose Garden. It is one of the best photographic location. 

LAMB'S ROCK, also known as ECHO ROCK, is situated on the Nilgiri Hill slopes. It is famous for its landscape, panorama and trekking adventures.

DOLPHIN'S NOSE, a popular tourist spot, is a View Point. It is located around 5,075 feet above the sea level and it is one of the best spot to get the spectacular view of the hill station. It is named so because the tip of the Peak resembles like the nose of a dolphin. The rock formation around this place is entirely unique in nature. On the left and right side of the Dolphin's Nose Peak, huge Ravines can be seen. Tea Plantations can be seen all over this place. From this point, one can get the beautiful view of the Catherine Falls.
